Ranking EdTech for Inclusion: A Comparative Analysis of Accessibility and Affordability Metrics

This study investigates and ranks EdTech services like edtech tools, platforms etc. based on their features for accessibility for students with disabilities in K–12 education, with a specific focus on tools and platforms that are free and widely used in underserved settings. As digital learning becomes increasingly integral to education, it is vital to identify technologies that not only comply with accessibility standards but also meaningfully enhance learning outcomes and engagement for marginalized student populations. The research evaluates a curated list of EdTech platforms, services and tools using a multi-criteria framework that includes: (1) accessibility features such as text-to-speech, screen reader compatibility, and offline access; (2) reported affordability measuring the scalability or compatibility with existing devices and availability of free or freemium services; (3) number of users. Data was collected through a combination of literature review, educator surveys, and secondary reports. Findings highlight a small subset of free tools that consistently demonstrate strong accessibility design and measurable benefits for inclusive education. This ranking aims to support educators, administrators, and policymakers in selecting digital tools and platforms that genuinely advance educational equity for students with disabilities.
